I was initially very excited by this book When Richmond talks about not compromising your art she talks about finding committing to and protecting your own uniue reuirements for making your strongest and most relevant art She starts out recommending a few things that have helped her and her students to develop their own uniue art practices Very useful information After that the book falls apart for me She goes deeply into technology and how it is shaping our communication processes If you are incorporating video or other technologies into your artwork then this book might help clarify your art process Unfortunately it did not apply to the work I am doing at this time At the end of the book I found out that this book was pulled together from columns she wrote for Communication Arts so the technologycommunication chapters now make perfect sense to me It also explains why the book felt very choppy and disconnected I would still recommend this book to other artists especially those that use a lot of technology in their work The first 30 or 40 pages are useful to any artist working in any medium and I plan to incorporate some of her suggestions into my own art practice

a bad collection of unedited loosely connected review the author wrote for a computer magazine At first she makes a few interesting comments based on art lessons at school but soon the book disintegrates into series of highly repetitive notes about computers or Mrs Richmond's use of her mobile phone Who cares?Worse and importantly it s supposed to be about art but obviously Wendy has no clue what art is for her anything vaguely creative advertising included is art It seems the only artist she knows is Richard Serra nothing wrong with him but the fact that Serra is almost the only artist mentioned very repetitively shows how little she knows Oh no she has many other examples computer mobile phone advertising etcBefore she tries to educate others about what art is and how to do it maybe Mrs Richmond should educate herself

Loved this book of essays Made me look at life different To be aware of my surroundings Visually and aurally The building blocks of creativity are countless How I take all that and come up with my own way of expressing my creativity is the challenge My take away uote When I try to do what someone else wants I fail But when I focus on what I want and how I want to do it I succeed
