[PDF / EPUB] String Theory, Volume 1: An Introduction to the Bosonic String (Cambridge Monographs on Mathematical Physics) String theory has advanced rapidly over the last 15 years and is increasingly seen as the best and perhaps only route to the complete unification of the four fundamental forces the so called theory of String theory has *Volume 1: PDF/EPUB ¼ * advanced rapidly over the last years and is increasingly seen as the best and perhaps only route to the complete unification of the four fundamental forces the so called theory of everything This text provides in two volumes a thoroughly modern and comprehensive introduction to strings and superstrings and brings the reader up to date on the latest developments in string duality M theory D branes and the application of string theory to black __String Theory, MOBI :ß __ hole uantum mechanics The author is one of the world's top string theorists and is also known as a clear and cogent writer The two volumes are written at a level appropriate to graduate students in physics This is the first major textbook on strings since the two volume work *Theory, Volume 1: An Introduction PDF/EPUB or * of Green Schwartz and Witten years ago which sold extraordinarily well reprinting within a month of publication The main market for the book is theoretical physicists particle physicists *Theory, Volume 1: PDF/EPUB ½ * astrophysicists cosmologists and applied mathematicians However this is an accessible book on one of the most fundamental uestions in physics by a top researcher It has all the ingredients to be a best seller.

This is in my opinion the authoritative textbook Volume 1 focuses on developing the worldsheet theory of the string Polchinski also covers in detail all of the key mathematical tools and concepts from conformal field theory to BRST uantisation and computing scattering amplitudes For simplicity Volume 1 focuses solely on bosonic string theory with the fermionic theory and things like supersymmetry hence superstring theory reserved for Volume 2 This type of structure is generally the rule to teaching the subject as everything learned in the bosonic theory of the string can be applied and expanded to the case of the superstring That is to say I think it is worth spending the time working through Volume 1 before proceeding to Volume 2For some I've seen complaints that this textbook Vol 1 and 2 are too dense for a reader learning the subject Polchinski's approach indeed serves as a technical guide and there are pages where heavy background computation is less than obvious So I understand the content matter may at times seem impenetrable But I wholly recommend patient and thorough reading If necessary one could supplement Volume 1 and 2 with Green Schwarz and Witten another excellent string textbook or Becker Becker and Schwarz

Okay as far as it goes The problems are than obvious but at least Joe is reasonably honest about presenting the formal basis for this strange intellectual pyramid scheme

Ahh like reading the ole college science texts Sometimes I like to see whats new or not so new in the scientific world This theory is uite fascinating
