Each little essay brightened my day and challenged me to look at life through a kinder and simpler lens Joy and wonder are waiting to be found in the simple moments of life It was the perfect little devotional as I cared for my newborn and adjusted to life as a mama.

In Simple Wonders, Christopher de Vinck, an educator and writer perhaps best known for his book The Power of the Powerless, offers some 75 short meditations on the disarming pleasure of looking beyond the seen It s a book I find myself re reading just about every year as I ve just done for 2015 not as an escape from the front page news focused of the world s very real trouble spots and pain but, rather, as a reminder of the beauty and joy in simple things that are very easy to miss At In Simple Wonders, Christopher de Vinck, an educator and writer perhaps best known for his book The Power of the Powerless, offers some 75 short meditations on the disarming pleasure of looking beyond the seen It s a book I find myself re reading just about every year as I ve just done for 2015 not as an escape from the front page news focused of the world s very real trouble spots and pain but, rather, as a reminder of the beauty and joy in simple things that are very easy to miss At points elegant in its prose and often inspirational in its focus on his parents, children, and students, Simple Wonders is a book worthy of at least one reading if not, like me, a regular return to its pages A long time friend of the writer Henri J.M Nouwen and the children s television host Mr Fred Rogers, de Vinck s work has a similar charm and encouragement that both of those communicators brought, as well

My book was titled Simple Wonders A Book of Reflections I liked the short, simple stories this author wrote about various times in his life, from childhood to adult Each story, simple as they were, taught a lesson I loved the scripture passage before each story, and a prayer at the end of each.

Christopher DeVinck does a fascinating job of making the ordinary extraordinary, finding the beauty in the seemingly dull everyday moments There are stories that are though provoking A good meditation book
