His Best Friend's Baby by Molly O'Keefe was my second book by her and this one too was very goodThe best part about it I loved how the heroine slowly stood up for herself and took charge of her life and happinessJesse Fil only wants to sell his parent's house and get out of the town he grew up in he doesn't want to start a relationship with the sister he adored but who he felt abandoned him when she left to his drunk father Jesse is recovering from the injuries he received in the war and wallowing in guilt about the death of three of his soldiers especially his best friend Mitch Julia was Mitch's wife and comes to town with her two year in tow to Mitch's parent's house Julia is struggling and even though her in laws weren't good to her she is hoping to create a family that is all she has ever wanted being in the military and moving around and Jesse See the thing is Julia doesn't love Mitch she swept her inexperienced self off her feet and she married him when she got pregnant but she soon found that he was not that man she thought he was He lied to her cheated on her made her feel worthless and left her with debts after his death It was Jesse who made her feel that she deserved better Only Julia and Jesse knew the true Mitch and not what the whole town and his family try to make him to beAt first Julia didn't really do anything She let Agnes her mother in law walks over herself since Julia knew she owed it to her but I liked how she applied for jobs even in their opposition how she called Jesse on him blowing hot and cold how she told Agnes the truth about her son She gradually took charge of her life and made Jesse see that he was not to blame for the accident no matter what some narrow minded people said the he needed to forgive his sisterJesse was wallowing way too much he told Julia that he wouldn't stay in town It took someone else to make him see that he was taking responsibility for others actions

I loved this book I read it instead of sleeping all night  I never read this author before but I'm a fan now  I love the characters the feel of the book I could picture this beautiful place truly felt swept away What a great love story but also a look at family complex relationshipsThis is a book that held my interest through out waiting to see what was on the next page I loved this type of book and wish I could find like it that is easy reading not a lot of characters but a story you can follow with no flipping back and forth in years

So emotional and angsty I inhaled this book in one sitting Also lots of secondary characters that are developed well enough to make this book feel bigger than it truly is 290 pages However I did feel at times the romance got a little lost with all the angst and conflict flying around Still O'Keefe writes heartache so well it's hard to uibble
