If you have been following my blog for a while you know that I became a huge fan of this author when I read his first book Moonlight Falls back in May Since that time I have read his subseuent novels The Remains The Innocent and Godchild and all have been exceptional Before leaving to go on vacation Mr Zandri honored me by entrusting me to read and review a galley of his latest novel that will be out today CONCRETE PEARL by Vincent ZandriPublished by StoneGate InkBNID 2940012494825At the reuest of the author a PDF galley edition was sent at no cost to me for my honest opinion Synopsis Ava “Spike” Harrison might be a beautiful classically schooled woman but the single 38 year old construction business owner is also plenty ballsy Her late father taught her long ago how to handle the rough boys in an industry that’s almost entirely filled with hard boiled men on the make But now with “the business dad built” from the ground up failing due to an unusual series of job site injuries and just plain bad luck Spike has no choice but to take on one last project she believes can pull the fledgling commercial firm from the depths of almost certain bankruptcy and family shame The Renovation of Albany PS 20 Problem is Spike had no choice but to take the job on the cheap or what’s known in the industry as “at cost” To make matters worse she’s not only hired an asbestos removal contractor who unbeknownst to her low balled his price but she’s advanced him 10Gs from her own dwindling cash account as a “good faith” incentive to beat the project deadline Now when that same asbestos contractor goes missing and it’s discovered by OSHA officials that he’s cheated on the project exposing than 300 students to deadly asbestos fibers for months the ever responsible Spike takes matters into her own callused hands and goes in search of him What she discovers along the way however is a path paved with deception greed murder and eventually her own ultimate demise My Thoughts and Opinion Another hole in one Zandri once again proves that he is a master story teller With this book he lures you onto a Tower of Terror ride and buckles you in before you have the ability to get off Brilliant This is what I call a transport book whereas I was so engrossed in the plot that I was unaware of my surroundings Because of his superb writing style both the characters and settings I was able to create vivid visualizations in my mind Gifted Ava Spike Harrison the main character was charismatic who fought on principals but also had to deal with emotions of loss vague due to not wanting to include spoilers Throughout the book she wondered how a headstrong girl like me would get into different situations which made her a likeable character that had this reader rooting for her and hoping that there will be seuels A nonstop read of twists and turns until the very last word And just when you think you are nearing the end of the ride Mr Zandri catapults the reader to the top of the tower at break neck speed Not wanting to include spoilers all I could picture in my mind when this happened was a theater full of people and everyone at the same time sits back in their seats and gasps which is exactly what I did when I read it Zandri delivers another page turning can't put down novel Fantastic My Rating 5 Vincent Zandri is the No 1 Internationally Bestselling Kindle E Book author of THE REMAINS THE INNOCENT GODCHILD and MOONLIGHT FALLS CONCRETE PEARL is his fifth thriller A freelance photojournalist and foreign correspondent he divides his time between New York and Florence Italy For information please visit his website

Mystery thriller is a tough genre to write in as a lot of ground has been covered by many authors before with murder scams and kidnapping It seems only novels some with originality in style and elements of supernatural present or twists really get rated high as page turners and grippers In this novel the elements of Construction companies Lethal asbestos and Missing money and missing person did not hold my interest I liked Zandri's other novel much The Remains The story was missing that something in the writing to make the mystery that much enjoyable to read about

The fourth book on my Vincent Zandri crime spree is also his latest Concrete Pearl Having read and reviewed the unholy trio that put him on the map read my reviews of The Remains The Innocent and Godchild I can safely say Concrete Pearl tops all of them It's his best work to dateThe story follows Spike Harrison who inherited her father's construction company She's the general contractor for a public school job when one of her sub contractors bails That guy Jimmy Farrel is in charge of asbestos removal Now Spike is on the hook for a bunch of sick school kids She has to figure out where Jimmy went before her ass winds up behind barsOh yeah and she has no money That bastard Jimmy took it all when he ranThe reader knows much than poor Spike though Zandri tells us exactly what happened to Jimmy in the first chapter It's not a spoiler to say that Jimmy wound up under a load of wet concrete Given that most of the novel follows Spike's attempts to find Jimmy you'd think Zandri ruined Concrete Pearl before it even startedIf you thought that you don't read enough ZandriThere's an entire conspiracy behind why Jimmy was killed Watching that unravel as the walls close in on Spike is what makes this novel such a gripping read There's layers upon layers of foul play at work Following Spike's investigation is the only way to make it followableAdding yet another dimension is that Zandri stated in a G Zone interview I forget the exact date of the show that this is based on true events Pulling a page from Hitchcock he affirms this by writing himself into the story His band the Blisterz plays a key role in the novelWhether the Blisterz were actually involved is up for speculation Maybe I'll ask him some time He did join the Trestle Press crew for a new series due out later this year Note to self Hell yeahThere's enough intrigue in Concrete Pearl to keep you guessing until the very end That sounds cliche but it's true This is Zandri's best novel to date You can't say it any other way

Hey there and happy Monday to all I wanted to start the week off with a bang and make some noise early in the week so I am going to post on not one but two of my collaborators I have been fortunate to work with Vincent Zandri on “Down Low Dead” available at Barnes Noble Smashwords Scribdcom and BR Stateham on “Hotel Beaumont” which will be released in a few weeks The reason I bring that up is that I have the uniue distinction of not only jazzing with these incredible authors in the written form but also verbally as they have both been my guests on my blogtalk show The G ZONE a number of times Two incredibly gifted authors two awesome novels of different genres two posts to start the week off as we march on towards the Memorial Day Weekend Vincent Zandri for me is the definition of how to work hard and make your readers happy He is well known for his large heart and responsiveness to his friends and fans of this I do not think anyone can argue with me Why do I bring this up? Basically the man is consistently trying to challenge himself to give his fans and readers his best work his best effort and to stretch himself artistically to the limits each and every time he sits at the keyboard How else do you think the man on two separate occasions came up with main characters named “Harry Balls” in “Down Low Dead” and “Ava Harrison “in “Concrete Pearl”Let’s get right to the action shall we“Ava Spike Harrison might be a beautiful classically schooled woman but the single 38 year old construction business owner is also plenty ballsy Her late father taught her long ago how to handle the rough boys in an industry that's almost entirely filled with hard boiled men on the make But now with the business dad built from the ground up failing due to an unusual series of job site injuries and just plain bad luck Spike has no choice but to take on one last project she believes can pull the fledgling firm from the depths of almost certain bankruptcy and family shame The Renovation of Albany PS 20Problem is Spike had no choice but to take the job on the cheap To make matters worse she's not only hired an asbestos removal contractor who unbeknownst to her low balled his price but she's advanced him 10Gs from her own dwindling cash account as a good faith incentive to beat the project deadlineNow when that same asbestos contractor suddenly goes missing and it's discovered by OSHA officials that he's cheated on the project exposing than 300 students to deadly asbestos fibers for months Spike decides to take matters into her own callused hands and go in search of him What she discovers along the way however is a path paved with deception greed murder and eventually her own ultimate demiseArmed with a framing hammer as her eualizer instead of a gun Spike Harrison is one hot but tough as nails amateur woman sleuth”I asked Mr Zandri point blank the last time we were discussing “Concrete Pearl” on my blogtalk show” How did you do the research for the lead your female character? Did you dress up like a woman and go out to the Albany bars?”His reply “No I have doing it for years so this was just a natural extension of my alternate lifestyle”Now we both laughed at this as we are known to have bouts of foolish behavior on the show But the thing is even if he doesn’t do that type of thing the man has nailed it down not just once but twice with the female viewpoint I don’t know if anyone remembers a little known novel called “The Remains” In that the man nails down the viewpoint of not just one girl but identical twins Amazing So I wasn’t surprised he went to the well again and tied that together with something he also has first hand knowledge of the construction industry Your basic win win for the man He gets to write about something he has been success with the women’s perspective and the construction industry; we the reader to get to reap the benefits of another intense fast paced hard hitting framing hammer to the skull read from the reigning “King of Kindle” Did I just write that? I have to guess I did My suggestion is if you are a fan of the man’s writing ability pick “Concrete Pearl” up for the a great holiday weekend read and go one step further and download “Down Low Dead” for another 99 and double your pleasure and have an incredible laughThings have changed around here I am now the published author by Trestle Press of “Down Low Dead” with Vincent Zandri “The Jersey Shore Has Eyes” with Big Daddy Abel” “GSI Gelati’s Scoop Investigations Psychotic Detectives” with Thomas White “Who Whacked The Blogger” with Benjamin Sobieckand the soon to be released “Thad and The G Man’s Most Awesome Adventure” with Thad Brown and “Hotel Beaumont” with BR Stateham All the stories are available Barnes Nobles and Smashwords I am also the host of the wildly popular The G ZONE blogtalk radio show Thanks for stopping by today; We will see you tomorrow Have a great day

A thoroughly captivating thriller mystery I was grabbed at the prologue and remained mesmerized by the unfolding story all the way to the harrowing climax Ava Harrison already operating her inherited sinking construction company on a shoestring steps into a nightmare scenario when she arrives at her single construction site on an otherwise rather normal Monday morning Ava also known as Spike in the industry and to her friends uickly finds herself fighting an uphill battle for her beleaguered company and her rapidly disintegrating reputation – then things just keep on spiraling down the drain from there As ever obstinate Spike has no choice but to track down her missing sub contractor by hook or crook fair or foul She has been set up to take the fall unfortunately for her unknown opposition; Spike steadfastly refuses to go down without a fight Told in a straight forward shoot from the hip no nonsense style from Spike’s point of view the events in the story will likely strike a chord with most any reader Safety concerns regarding asbestos and the serious health issues that can arise from improper removal techniues are frightening This novel delves deeply into many of the associated issues surrounding the topic It uses that as the jumping off point for a suspense thriller that is set firmly in a competitive industry where cutting corners and bribery can garner immense profit for an unscrupulous individual In short this story kept me engrossed wondering how Spike could ever extricate herself from the deep morass of trouble raining down upon her At the end I hated that the story was over – the journey was just amazing and the resolution so so satisfying This is definitely an author from whom I want to read This book was provided to me by the author and Pump Up Your Book Virtual Book Tours in return for an honest review No other compensation was received by me and my opinions are strictly my ownReviewed by Laurie J

Concrete Pearl is a breathless rush from start to finish After Ava Spike Harrison finds out that her asbestos removal company has not only borrowed 10Gs for final completion but also has improperly removed the asbestos from a school and that OSHA is on site to investigate the crime Spike is on her way looking for owner of the asbestos removal company and the reasons for the disasterSpike grew up in the construction business but since her husband who fell off the scaffolding and her father died it seems that her luck grows worse with each construction job One of the OSHA officials the Tiger Lady seems to be out to get herI had a great time reading this story The strong woman character Spike reminded me of all the women in the US Navy as electronic technicians You had to be just a little better a little harder and a little stronger than the men in the same job Zandri takes Spike looking for clues and then with a companion a PI she looks for clues Each layer of the story becomes tighter until Spike is carried into her worst nightmareBecause I enjoyed this book so much the first time I read it again It had overtones of Raymond Chandler I do enjoy noir So Zandri is now on my list of writers to read

This is another great mystery thriller from Zandri If that is the type of book you like than you will not be disappointedSpike is a great character She is interesting and complex and you can really picture her in the scenes You understand how she acts and why she does what she does and you want her to solve the mystery and save herself and her fathers companyWith her is a great cast of supporting characters Tommy her right hand man Spain the PI that finds her and offers his assistance but has his own agenda as well Farrell the contracter she hired to remove the asbestos The supporting cast is just as imporant and well descibed and imaged as the main character of SpikeThis is a story that keeps moving and keeps you moving right along with it There are no breaks And you don't want one Its a fantastic story of greed and corruption in a construction setting that grabs you from page one and doesn't let you go until you reach the endIf you are looking for a new book to read or even a new suspense author Pick this one up right away

Vincent Zandri is one hell of a writer He’s the author of other thrillers such as The Innocent Godchild and The Remains my review of The Remains is here but Vincent scares me he makes me wonder where he gets his inspiration if it’s as true to life as it seems; I’m worriedConcrete Pearl twists and shocks from the first page to the last The main character Ava “Spike” Harrison she got her name from impaling her foot on a six penny nail on the first construction site she worked on is about to have a very bad dayShe’s the boss of Harrison Construction the company that was originally her beloved fathers and now Spike’s the boss She’s a tough no nonsense character who will never give up never roll over Harrison Construction already has a number of health and safety convictions accidents that weren’t Spike’s fault but corporately the company takes the hit Today it’s going to get a lot worse Today asbestos is going to be found on the current work site That work site’s a school Worse; that work site is a school that still has children in it while the work carries on around them Asbestos contamination might eual sick kids Cancer Dead KidsThe authorities shut the site down Spike’s company is under suspicion of negligence but Spike’s company sub contracted the asbestos removal and now the removal company and the lab that verified their test results have shut down they've vanished Spike needs to find them and settle what’s happened and clear her nameThe characters are lifelike and believable some are so believable that you’ll hate them want to take them out yourself You’ll feel for others want to help them All the characters make this book the believable page after page to the last pageZandri winds the plot tighter and tighter he sueezes his lead character to incredible levels You wonder if she will ever sort out her problems as with each page a new issue raises its ugly head As accusations of negligence move to accusations of murder the author redefines the term “thriller”As you think Spike is buried deep Zandri turns the plot in her favour revelation follows revelation You start to wonder just who you can trust Is anyone innocent? Some are Zandri manages to tie up a plot and leave the reader very satisfied What happens to Spike? Well you’ll just have to read the book and find out for yourselfAt the start of this review I uestioned the author’s inspiration why? Well simply because I did a little reading around his blog other reviews before I read this book Vincent Zandri appears to borrow from his own life as part of his books A character in the books’ son is born on Halloween I understand that Zandri’s son is too and Spike’s family name Zandris son’s name So then what is it that Vincent Zandri knows about the construction industry it’s claimed that this a fictional story based on real events? Whether this is true or not it doesn’t really matter because Zandri is one hell of an author and although he is well published and sells books he’s probably not the household name of the likes of Patterson or Brown; Clancy or Child; but he deserves to be Zandri deserves to be the author I see in the window of Waterstones as I walk down the high street; to be in the 3 for 2’s The one that everyone is talking about the one that is on bigger blogs than mine That’s what he deserves I hope he gets it but either way I’m buying his next book and probably the one after that It’s rare to find an author that you want to read book after book but Vincent Zandri is in that league
