This is a well written reconstruction era Lovecraftian short storyI really liked the idea of sorcerers fighting along side union and confederate troopsI think there is a lot of material here if Tuttle were to decide to put together a similarly themed novelor series4 STARS

THis was a good short story Rounding up to 4 starsLoved the atmosphereIt's one of those shorts where you are thrown into a situation and get to live through this one particular night with the charactersSet in the South after the Civil War in a world where magic was and is in use where hard feelings run deep and a Yankee sorceress is pressing a fsteamboat captain to continue on to Vicksburg even if it means encountering something very very bad and angry

Passing the Narrows is a spooky short story set in the post Civil War South It would have made a wonderful Twilight Zone episode considering Rod Serling's views on war and peace If you have time for a 29 page story I highly recommend it

interesting premisebut if you aren't deeply touched by the characters themselves if the dark they're in doesn't feel dark enough the story stays too surface and that's what's happening for me here I really like Tuttle's Markhat stories but this one doesn't do it for me Try Connie Willis's Lincoln's Dreams instead

I really liked this short story Historical magical supernatural What could be betterThe only problem I found was that I didn't want it to end

  6. says:

Decent little ghost story Darker than much of Tuttle's other works but it has that signature atmospheric build up

Really enjoyable short story I am a big fan of Tuttles writing and world building style Excellent balance of detail against action keeps things moving while still providing satisfying depth
