I've been asked about an introduction to Strauss before and have detailed my thoughts on that here Reading Leo StraussThis book is a gem not because it tells you everything you need to know about Strauss but because it's a fun read that informs every step of the way The introductory essay by Pangle is packed it looks to be an attempt to explain how PlatonicSocratic thought works The essay by Strauss on the Apology is essential reading what is Socrates trying to achieve by talking about the charges against him a different way?At the same time the way I read this book is casually I don't come to it with the feeling I have to read and understand all of it; I've read the essays on Heidegger Xenophon Thucydides Nietzsche and on Natural Law while sipping coffee and making a few notes here and there There's dense analysis going on here but there is something playful about it all and it is no struggle to comprehend initially
